Question 1

Who taps first?

Accepted Answer

Black. Just like a real chess clock, Black taps their half to start White's time. After that, each player taps their own half when they finish a move, which stops their clock and starts the opponent's.

Question 2

Where do I put the phone?

Accepted Answer

Beside the board, between the two players. Each half of the screen faces its player, so both can read their own time the right way up. If White is sitting on the other side, tap Swap colours before the first move.

Question 3

How does the increment work?

Accepted Answer

The increment is added to your clock the moment you tap to end your move, the way a Fischer clock works. 3 + 2 means three minutes each, plus two seconds for every move you make. A small +2s appears on your half when it is added.

Question 4

Can I set my own time control?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Under Custom, set the time per player and the increment per move with the steppers. The time goes up to 600 minutes and the increment up to 600 seconds. Your last choice is remembered for next time.

Question 5

What happens when time runs low?

Accepted Answer

Under 20 seconds the running clock turns amber and shows tenths of a second. Under 10 seconds it turns red, pulses, and the phone buzzes, so time trouble is hard to miss. When a clock reaches zero, that player's flag falls and the game ends.

Question 6

Can I pause, or end a game early?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The pause button sits between the two halves and stops both clocks. Ending a live game asks for a second tap, so a stray touch never throws a game away.

Question 7

How do I play again?

Accepted Answer

After a flag falls, tap Rematch. The colours swap and both clocks reset to the same time control, ready for the next game.

Question 8

Will the screen turn off during a game?

Accepted Answer

No. The app keeps the screen awake while a game is running, then lets it sleep again once you are back on the setup screen.

Question 9

Can I turn off the sounds or the vibration?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Sounds and vibration each have a switch on the setup screen, and the speaker button between the clocks mutes sound during a game.

Question 10

Does it work offline?

Accepted Answer

Yes, completely. The app never needs a connection, so it works in a club basement or on a plane.

Question 11

Is it free? Are there ads?

Accepted Answer

It is free, with no ads, no in-app purchases and no account.

Question 12

Is there an iPhone version?

Accepted Answer

It is on Android today, with an iPhone version on its way to the App Store.

Question 13

Does the app collect personal data?

Accepted Answer

No. It keeps one small settings file on your phone (your last time control and the sound and vibration switches) and sends nothing anywhere. The privacy policy has the details.
