Stud finder
How do I find a stud?
Wait for the calibration to finish with the phone held still, away from metal. Then lay the phone flat on the wall and slide it slowly sideways. When it passes over a screw or nail, the signal rises and the phone buzzes. Mark the spot, then check above and below it: a vertical line of screws is a stud.
It shows metal when the phone is in the air.
Something magnetic near the phone threw off the calibration, such as a laptop, a speaker, a magnetic case or a metal table. Move away from it, hold the phone near the wall and tap Recalibrate.
It does not react to anything.
Raise the Sensitivity slider and move more slowly. The magnetic sensor sits near the top of most phones, so lead with the top edge. Drywall fixed with glue instead of screws, or a wall of brick or concrete, has no metal for Paku to find.
Can it find wood, wires or pipes?
Paku finds metal, not wood. It finds studs through the screws and nails in them. Wires and metal pipes are metal too and can look like a screw, so do not drill near outlets and switches, or where a reading runs sideways along the wall. Turn off the power before drilling where a wire could be.
It says this phone has no magnetic sensor.
Some phones, mostly low-cost models, are built without one. The stud finder cannot work on them; the level and the angle finder still do. If you know your phone has a compass, close Paku fully and open it again.
Level and angle finder
The level is not at 0.0° on a flat surface.
Phone sensors are rarely perfect out of the box. Put the phone on a surface you know is level and tap Calibrate on a known level surface. Paku remembers it.
How do I measure an angle?
Hold the phone against the first surface and tap Set zero. Turn it to the second surface and read the angle. Tap Hold to keep the reading on screen.
Paku Pro and purchases
What is free, and what does Pro add?
The bubble level is free, and the stud finder comes with 3 free scans. Pro unlocks unlimited stud finder scans and the angle finder. There are no ads in either version.
I bought Pro and it is not unlocked.
Tap the ⋯ button at the top right and choose Restore purchases, signed in with the same Google Play account or Apple ID you bought with. A purchase made on Google Play does not carry over to an iPhone, or the other way around.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by the store. On Android: Google Play Store > Payments and subscriptions > Subscriptions. On iPhone: Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the period or the free trial ends. Deleting the app does not cancel it.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by the store, so we cannot issue them ourselves. Use Google Play’s refund page or Apple’s Report a Problem.
Does Paku collect my data?
No account, no ads, no analytics. Sensor readings never leave your phone. Only purchase records go to RevenueCat, under an anonymous ID. See the privacy policy and the terms of service.
